Doing A Local Job Search

My daughter will be attending college in a different part of the state.  She has decided that she would like to get a job in this new community for the summer so that she will have some time to get to know the area prior to her course work starting.  We did a local job search on the internet and were surprised at the number of opportunities that were available to her.

When she first talked about wanting to do a local job search I thought we would have to sign up for the newspaper for that area.  It was so much easier with the local job search.

Through the local job search she was able to fill in specific applications to different establishments that were hiring.  She was able to place a general application on the local job search network.  This local job search network allows employers to view your application and resume to decide if you qualify for the positions that they are hiring for.  This process is wonderful at saving time for both the employer and the person looking for work.

My daughter has worked at an area fast food establishment, and assumed that this is the kind of work that she would be doing in the new community.  She has typing skills as well as some experience with answering telephones, which she did as a volunteer.  We developed her resume and placed it on the local job search data base.

We included her paid experience as well as the volunteer experiences that she had.  She checked the box that cleared the posting as non-private, which meant that employers using the local job search service would have access to her information, even though she had not filled out an application for their company.

My daughter received two requests for interviews through the local job search within the first week.  We drove to the new community and she interviewed for both positions.  One was working in fast food.  The other was working as a part time receptionist for a large company.

She had not seen the opening for this position but the company had read her resume on the local job search and was interested in meeting her.  She did very well in both interviews and was offered both jobs.  She decided to go with the receptionist job so that she could learn new skills.

If we had not used the local job search she would not even have known that this opportunity existed.   She started working 5 weeks ago and loves her job.  She is very thankful that she found the local job search service, so she does not have to work in fast food any more.
