Graduating from college can be a very exciting time. You are finally fulfilling the dream of starting the career opportunity for which you have been working so hard all those years.

However, reality may set in quickly if you cannot find the job option you are looking for or are not offered the salary you were expecting.

Most graduates have little - if any - experience actually working in their chosen profession, so that lack can make landing a related position even more difficult.

Consider Entry Level for a Start

You may need to start from the bottom at an entry level job while gradually working your way up the ladder. This can be a difficult emotional adjustment, but it may be the only means of initially getting your foot in the door of your preferred employers.

The challenges in that scenario are that you may not be paid what you think your skills and effort are worth, and there may well be a lot of competition for the very position you seek.

Salary Negotiation Limitations

As a recent graduate, unfortunately there is not a lot of room for negotiation of salary. This is because you do not bring a wealth of experience into the position, and you are still young.

You normally cannot negotiate effectively something for work you have never truly done before, while applicants with experience will be much better positioned to negotiate based on previous positions.

However, you still have the ability to figure out what you are worth. Depending on the type of degree you graduated with, you may be able to successfully request a higher salary based on your education alone.

Those with Advanced Degrees

Many graduates with Master Degrees or PhD’s are able to do just that based simply on the fact that they went further in school.

It is important that you not sell yourself short. You do not necessarily need to work for a small wage if you believe you are worth more. But you first need to research salary averages for your field of employment and general locale.

Don’t Respond out of Deperation

Many companies try to “lowball” prospective employees. However, armed with knowledge of average salaries in your specialty, you are better equipped to strike a bargain for your market value.

You do not need to feel compelled to take the first offer that is given to you, either. Salary for the most part is open to negotiation - within reason.

Again, since you do not have experience, you will likely be limited in your ability to negotiate a much higher salary, but even a small about above an initial offer is helpful.

Wait for the Job Offer

The most important rule of thumb about salary negotiation is that you avoid discussing salary until a formal offer has been extended for employment.

Doing so will first afford you the opportunity to understand the core and peripheral responsibilities of the position. That knowledge may help you during salary discussions.

Lastly, salary is not your only financial consideration. You need to weigh company benefits such as health insurance, dental insurance, and 401K plans as well.

Taking the entire package into account will help you better analyze whether you are being offered a good deal to start your new career.

It appears like the year 2008 is going to end poorly with respect to the economy and jobs. Following the news it almost sounds like there are no jobs out there, but you can find jobs if you know where to look. One such place is in health care where shortages are common. This may be due to not enough people having the proper education to qualify for a position and also due to people retiring who currently work in the field.

There are both shorter and longer ways to become an RN. A shorter way to become an RN is to complete either a nursing diploma program or an associate’s degree in nursing program. Both of these options can allow someone to become an RN. Another option is to pursue a four year bachelor’s in nursing degree. Which one you choose will likely depend on your time frame and career goals.

If you need to start working sooner rather then later then the shorter diploma or associate degree option may be best. If you only have a goal to be a nurse and not go into management then this option may be a great choice. If you later decide to get a bachelors degree you can find many transition programs. If you have the time and know for sure you want more career opportunities then earning your BSN (four year) degree from the start may be a great idea for you. This will give you an opportunity to go into management and other career opportunities those with a lesser degree may not have.

Whatever choice you decide a key thing to do now is to compare all your options. This includes nursing schools and type of programs. Once that is done you can start applying for different schools.

Remember that all the schools will have different requirements to be accepted into their programs. In many cases you to get accepted into a nursing school you will need to take and do well on the nursing entrance test (NET) or other test. It’s obviously sort of difficult to get a job as a dentist, but if you like teeth, the good news is that there are lots of other types of positions available as well. Not all dental jobs require qualifications; though it would obviously help you if you did gain some form of qualification before you applied to any job role. Typically the skills needed to become a dental assistant are being a quick worker and you may also need experience in various areas such as taking x-rays and being able to create temporary crowns. Every dentist requires a different set of skills from their assistants, and you may not be required to have an existing skill set at all. If you don’t have any experience or knowledge in the area then you may be able to find trainee positions. The actual salary for dental assistants will vary depending upon the company hiring you. That’s due to the difference in duties between assistant roles at different offices.

Some dentists may require much more out of their assistants than others do. You may also want to try and find a job as a dental hygienist. The dental hygienist’s main role is to ensure that patients’ teeth and gums are as healthy as possible. The job is about cleaning patient’s teeth and treating any infections. This job will most likely require a bachelor’s degree.

As you can see, the opportunities in the dental field are varied. While the skill level required to do these different types of jobs varies greatly, you can find something to fit your skills!

Most of us have, at some point, wondered what it would be like to be the head of our own company, in charge of a big staff and making important decisions. If you’re like most people, you’ve probably at least thought about becoming the boss, but what is it really like to hold the most powerful position in the company and really be the person the buck stops with? CFO, CIO Jobs and CE Jobs are all very desirable and powerful positions- but be warned, they come with a lot of responsibility, as well.

Normally, the CE (Chief Executive) is the person with that responsibility- they are in charge of making day-to-day executive decisions and holds responsibility for the company’s operations. They are the ones charged with making the major decisions that affect daily business and operations. A CFO (Chief Financial Officer), by contrast, is someone who is responsible for the company’s financial moves and decisions. If your interests lie more in information technology, such as hardware and software, you are probably most suited to a CFO Jobs (CIO) positions. If there is information that needs to be distributed company wide or to the media, the CIO usually has responsibility for that, as well- at least as long as the company is doing well.

Remember, though, that even though these jobs sound like they’re ideal- lots of power, freedom and responsibility- bad comes with the good; and CFO’s, CIO’s and CEO’s often have to take on unpleasant tasks such as deciding who will be laid off and which offices will be closed in difficult financial times. Of course, if you already know that having to do negative things at times is a part of the job, it probably won’t bother you as much. If you like the freedom to make your own decisions, either for good or for bad, these types of positions are for you.

It’s a relatively small job market, after all, each company would only need one of each of these individuals, but it’s steady- a company always has need of someone at the top to run things. Usually, CEO’s, CFO’s and CIO’s are required to undergo advanced schooling such as an MBA program, but with hard work and loyalty you may be promoted from within to one of these positions. If you’ve always wanted to be a high level decision maker, make sure to consider opportunities in lead positions.
