Doing A Local Job Search

My daughter will be attending college in a different part of the state.  She has decided that she would like to get a job in this new community for the summer so that she will have some time to get to know the area prior to her course work starting.  We did a local job search on the internet and were surprised at the number of opportunities that were available to her.

When she first talked about wanting to do a local job search I thought we would have to sign up for the newspaper for that area.  It was so much easier with the local job search. Read more »

Making The Most Out Of Job Fairs

Do you have any clue what you want to do when you grow up? This is a tough one to say the least. Heck, so many of us grow up and finish high school, and yet we still don’t know what we want to do for a living. This is not our fault per se. After all, how can we possibly know what we’ll love if we’ve never experienced it before. It’s all speculation until we actually get out there and do it.

Those theories we harbor regarding particular fields don’t always pan out. While you might assume police work is your ideal career field, Read more »

How To Do Career Research

When you don’t know what you want to do with your life, you should do some career research to figure out what you want to do and where you want to go to college. This isn’t only for teenagers though; adults who feel stuck in a rut and ready for a change might benefit from this as well.

We don’t always choose the best career when we first start out, and there may come a time when we want to do something else entirely.

You never know when this will happen, and it can happen for a lot of different reasons. We don’t always know to do career research when we are young, and some schools don’t pay enough attention. They should do more to help kids understand that what they choose will be something that can make or break their life, and they should do more to encourage kids to do a lot of career research before they decide what they want to do.

Many leave school without even having an idea, and they feel lost for a long time. Had they been encouraged to do career research they may have found something before spending a few years in college taking random classes with no direction.

As adults, we can find that no matter how much career research we do, we may find that we don’t love what we are doing and we can become quite miserable. This happened to me, and it happened twice. Perhaps I should have stuck to my first dream of writing all the way back then.

If I had done that, I would be a lot happier now, and probably a lot farther along in my writing career as we speak. I didn’t think writing was a profitable career, at least not for most people, and had I done career research, I would have known better.

If you are concerned that you don’t know where you are going as a high school student, you should talk to your guidance counselor. If you are an adult, you may have to take a trip to your local library to do career research on your own.

Look for the tests out there that can tell you what you might be interested in doing, or perhaps what you might be good at considering your current skills. These can help guide you as you begin your research and begin your new path towards career fulfillment.

How To Fill Out A Job Application

Some people have a problem finding a good job, and they don’t know why. They can’t seem to get in for a first interview and they are left feeling frustrated. I know this because I once had a roommate right after college who was having this problem. She had good grades, was bright and personable, and she always dressed well.

Though it’s not realistic that she get called back for everything single job she applied for, she should have at least gotten a few phone calls. As it turned out, the problem was with her job application. Read more »
